So today is Blue Monday. The concept was first published in a 2005 press release from Sky Travel, which claimed to have calculated the date using an “equation” and name this as the most depressing day of the year for people.
Blue Monday is absolute nonsense. It completely trivialises a serious illness such as depression.
Fortunately companies understand that poor mental health costs UK employers up to £45 billion each year. But for every £1 spent by employers on mental health interventions, they get back £5 in reduced absence, presenteeism, and staff turnover (Deloitte, 2020).
Essential 6 have a range of Mental Health Training programmes and we’ll work alongside you to deliver training that complements and enhances your existing wellbeing strategy.
The MHFA England is a fantastic course that provides you with an in-depth understanding of mental health and the factors that can affect wellbeing including;
- Practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental health issues
- Confidence to step in, reassure and support a person in distress
- Enhanced interpersonal skills such as non-judgemental listening
- Knowledge to help someone recover their health by guiding them to further support – whether that’s self-help resources, through their employer, the NHS, or a mix
