Rules for all types of road users have been updated in The Highway Code to improve the safety of people walking, cycling and riding horses. These updates were introduced on 29th January 2022.
It’s important that any employees or volunteers who are users on behalf of business are updated and aware of the changes to the Highway Code as every road user has a responsibility to keep themselves and others safe.
Main highlights of the new changes mean being ready, leaving space and giving priority when on the roadways because it’ll help keep our roads safe for every user–including you!
8 changes that you need to know about are covered
The 8 changes cover areas such as;
- Hierarchy of road users
- People crossing the road at junctions
- Walking, cycling or riding in shared spaces
- Positioning in the road when cycling
- Overtaking when driving or cycling
- People cycling at junctions
- People cycling, riding a horse and driving horse-drawn vehicles
- Parking, charging and leaving vehicles
In total, 10 sections of The Highway Code have been updated, with 50 rules being added or updated.
