DESCRIPTION:Course Overview: \nThe qualification and learning outcomes are based on the recommendations of: \n• Resuscitation Council (UK)\n• Skills for Health Assessment Principles for First Aid Qualifications \nThis QA qualification is for people who work with or look after children\, enabling them to have a basic knowledge of how to deal with paediatric first aid situations\, illnesses\, injuries and emergencies. Learners should be able to demonstrate the practical administration of safe\, prompt\, effective first aid in situations which can arise when looking after children. \nCourse Outline:\n1. Understand the role and responsibilities of the paediatric first aider \n1.1 Explain the role and responsibilities of a paediatric first aider\n1.2 Explain how to minimise the risk of infection to self and others\n1.3 Identify when to use personal protection equipment when providing first aid\n1.4 Identify contents of a paediatric first aid kit\n1.5 Identify the need to complete an accident report/incident record\n1.6 Define an infant and a child for the purposes of first aid treatment \n2. Be able to assess an emergency situation safely \n2.1 Conduct a scene survey\n2.2 Conduct a primary survey on an infant and a child\n2.3 Identify when to call for help \n3. Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who is unresponsive and breathing normally \n3.1 Place an infant and a child in the recovery position\n3.2 Continually monitor an infant and a child whilst they are in the recovery position\n3.3 Assist an infant and a child who is experiencing a seizure \n4. Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who is unresponsive and not breathing normally \n4.1 Identify when to administer Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) to an unresponsive infant\nand an unresponsive child who is not breathing normally\n4.2 Administer CPR using an infant and a child manikin\, use of an AED \n5. Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who is choking \n5.1 Identify when choking is:\n• Mild\n• Severe\n5.2 Administer first aid to an infant and a child who is choking \n6. Understand how to administer first aid to an infant and a child who has sustained an electric shock \n6.1 Explain how to safely manage an incident involving electricity\n6.2 Describe how to administer first aid for electric shock incidents \n7. Understand how to administer first aid to an infant and a child with burns or scalds \n7.1 Describe how to recognise the severity of:\n• Burns\n• Scalds \n7.2 Explain how to administer first aid for:\n• Burns\n• Scalds \n8. Understand how to administer first aid to an infant and a child who has been poisoned \n8.1 Identify how poisonous substances can enter the body\n8.3 Explain how to administer first aid for sudden poisoning \n9. Understand how to provide first aid to an infant or child with anaphylaxis \n9.1 List common triggers for anaphylaxis\n9.2 Describe how to recognise anaphylaxis in an infant and a child\n9.3 Explain how to administer first aid for an infant and a child with anaphylaxis \nCourse Assessment and Certification \nFormative assessment conducted by Trainer throughout the course\n• Theory assessment/multiple choice question paper:\n1 x 15 question paper (minimum score 11)\n1 x 25 question paper (minimum score 18)\n• Practical assessment – 6 completed throughout the course \nOther Information: \nAll delegates receive a quality first aid manual. Sensible dress is advised as practical floor-based activities are required. \nLunch provided.

DESCRIPTION:Qualification Overview \nThe qualification and learning outcomes are based on the recommendations of: \n• Resuscitation Council (UK)\n• Assessment Principles for Regulated First Aid Qualifications \nThis qualification is: \n• For people who deal with emergency first aid at work enabling them to be workplace emergency first aiders under the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 \n• Based on the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) training standard for delivery of Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) courses for the purposes of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 \nThis qualification should enable Learners to attain the knowledge and practical competencies needed to deal with a range of emergency first aid situations. \nLearners should be able to demonstrate the practical administration of safe\, prompt\, effective first aid in emergency situations with an understanding of the role of first aider. \nQualification Outline \n1.
