Training providers can run qualifications regulated by these awarding bodies. They are regulated with strict quality and verification processes\, so you get piece of mind that the training is up to date and of a potentially high standard. This course covers the First Aid at Work syllabus and ensures that time is given to practice practical sessions and review updates. All learners must be in possession of a current and valid First Aid at Work certificate to commence their programme of learning. \nCourse Outline: \nBy the end of the course the delegates will be able to: \n: Act safely\, promptly and effectively when an emergency occurs at work\n: Carry out cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) promptly and effectively\n: Care for a unconscious casualty and place in the recovery position\n: Administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded or bleeding\n: Administer first aid to a casualty who has been:\n: Burned or scalded\n: Is suffering from an injury to bones\, muscles or joints\n: Is suffering from shock\n: Has an eye injury\n: May be poisoned\n: Has been overcome by gas or fumes\n: Transport a casualty safely as required by the circumstances of the workplace\n: Recognise common major and minor illnesses/conditions and take appropriate actions as required\n: Maintain simple factual records and provide written information if required\n: Delegates will also be able to demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of the principles of first aid at work\, in particular of:\n: The importance of personal hygiene in first aid procedures\n: The legal framework for first aid provision at work\n: The use of equipment provided in the workplace\n: The role of the first aider in emergency procedures \nCourse Duration: \n2 Days \nCourse Assessment: \nDelegates are formally assessed on 3 practical scenarios and also sit a multiple choice question paper or oral question paper on request \nCourse Certification: \nRoute to certification will be through an awarding body that is approved by OFQUAL\, the SQA or the Welsh Government. Training providers can run qualifications regulated by these awarding bodies. They are regulated with strict quality and verification processes\, so you get piece of mind that the training is up to date and of a potentially high standard. The qualifications have to be verified by both the awarding body and the training provider to assure quality. \nOther Information: \nAll delegates receive a quality first aid manual. Sensible dress is advised as practical floor-based activities are required \nDelegates must be able to provide an in date First Aid at Work RQF Level 3 certificate on day 1 of the course to continue with their learning.

DESCRIPTION:Qualification Overview \nThe qualification and learning outcomes are based on the recommendations of: \n• Resuscitation Council (UK)\n• Assessment Principles for Regulated First Aid Qualifications \nThis qualification is: \n• For people who deal with  first aid at work enabling them to be workplace  first aiders under the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 \n• Based on the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) training standard for delivery of Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) courses for the purposes of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 \nThis qualification should enable Learners to attain the knowledge and practical competencies needed to deal with a range of emergency first aid situations. \nLearners should be able to demonstrate the practical administration of safe\, prompt\, effective first aid in emergency situations with an understanding of the role of first aider. \nQualification Outline \n1. Understand the role and responsibilities of a first aider \n1.1 Identify the role and responsibilities of a first aider\n1.2 Identify how to minimise the risk of infection to self and others\n1.3 Identify the need for consent to provide first aid \n2. Be able to assess an incident \n2.1 Conduct a scene survey\n2.2 Conduct a primary survey of a casualty\n2.3 Summon appropriate assistance when necessary \n3. Be able to provide first aid to an unresponsive casualty \n3.1 Identify when to administer Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)\n3.2 Demonstrate CPR using a manikin\n3.3 Justify when to place a casualty into the recovery position\n3.4 Demonstrate how to place a casualty into the recovery position\n3.5 Identify how to administer first aid to a casualty who is experiencing a seizure \n4. Be able to provide first aid to a casualty who is choking \n4.1 Identify when choking is:\n• Mild\n• Severe\n4.2 Administer first aid to a casualty who is choking \n5. Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with external bleeding \n5.1 Identify the severity of external bleeding\n5.2 Demonstrate how to control external bleeding \n6. Know how provide first aid to a casualty who is in shock \n6.1 Recognise a casualty who is suffering from shock\n6.2 Identify how to administer first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock \n7. Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with minor injuries \n7.1 Identify how to administer first aid to a casualty with:\n• Small cuts\n• Grazes\n• Bruises\n• Small splinters\n7.2 Identify how to administer first aid to a casualty with minor burns and scalds \nQualification Unit 2 The Learner will: \n1. Be able to conduct a secondary survey \n1.1 Identify the information to be collected when gathering a casualty history\n1.2 Demonstrate how to conduct a head to toe survey \n2. Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected injuries to bones\, muscles and joints \n2.1 Recognise suspected:\n• Fractures and dislocations\n• Sprains and strains \n2.2 Identify how to administer first aid for:\n• Fractures and dislocations\n• Sprains and strains \n2.3 Demonstrate how to apply:\n• A support sling\n• An elevated sling \n3. Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected head and spinal injuries \n3.1 Recognise a suspected:\n• Head injury\n• Spinal injury \n3.2 Identify how to administer first aid for suspected head injury\n3.3 Demonstrate how to administer first aid for suspected spinal injury \n4. Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected chest injuries \n4.1 Recognise a suspected:\n• Flail chest\n• Penetrating chest injury \n4.2 Identify how to administer first aid for a:\n• Flail chest\n• Penetrating chest injury \n5. Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with sudden poisoning \n7.1 Identify the routes that poisons can take to enter the body\n7.2 Identify how to administer immediate first aid to a casualty affected by sudden poisoning\n7.3 Identify sources of information for treating those affected by sudden poisoning \n8. Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with anaphylaxis \n8.1 Identify common triggers for anaphylaxis\n8.2 Recognise suspected anaphylaxis\n8.3 Identify how to administer first aid for a casualty suffering from anaphylaxis \n9. Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected major illness \n9.1 Recognise suspected:\n• Heart attack\n• Stroke\n• Epileptic seizure\n• Asthma attack\n• Diabetic emergency \n9.2 Identify how to administer first aid to a casualty suffering from:\n• Heart attack\n• Stroke\n• Epileptic seizure\n• Asthma attack\n• Diabetic emergency \nCourse Duration \n3 Days \nQualification Assessment and Certification \nFormative assessment conducted by Trainer throughout the course\n• Theory assessment/multiple choice question paper:\n1 x 15 question paper (minimum score 11)\n1 x 25 question paper (minimum score 18)\n• Practical assessment – 6 completed throughout the course \nThis qualification sits on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF). The RQF is a qualification framework regulated by Ofqual.
