Delegates must complete all 4 days and all assessments in order to gain certification.

Aim of Training;

  • Provide an understanding of the principles and practice of moving & handling in healthcare and social care environments in order to reduce the risk of injury.

 Learning Objectives;

On completion of this course, the learners will be able to:

  • demonstrate an awareness of the potentially hazardous nature of manual handling
  • describe the structure and function of the spine and its vulnerability to injury
  • demonstrate an understanding of the role of fitness and exercise in reducing the risk of manual handling injury
  • demonstrate an awareness of the key legislation that relates to moving and handling tasks
  • explain that by facilitating independent movement or using mechanical assistance, such as a hoist, it is possible to avoid manual handling
  • demonstrate an understanding of the process for assessing the risk of injury to themselves, their colleagues and service users
  • demonstrate an understanding of the need to take action in reporting or reducing risk which is appropriate at the induction stage of their training
  • apply the principles underlying a low-risk manual handling technique
  • describe the manual handling practices and techniques which have been condemned as unsafe for staff and/or service users
  • identify and use appropriate moving and handling equipment
  • perform a range of low-risk moving and handling techniques in relation to people and objects
  • demonstrate that they should not use moving and handling equipment until they have been trained to do so

Assessments;

Delegates will complete 3 assessments

  • Written exam paper
  • Completion of a Moving & Handling Risk Assessment and explain this to the group
  • Practical Assessment based on a piece of equipment with the learner setting the scenario

Recommended Prerequisites;

Before undertaking this training, delegates are recommended to have the following;

  • Teaching Qualification; such as PTTLS, CTTLS or Cert Ed
  • Previous Manual Handling Experience

These are recommended prerequisites only. You can attend without the above, however, please be aware this course will not include a teaching qualification.
