About Essential 6
Workplace training that matters when it matters most
Choosing a training provider is not just about booking a course or issuing certificates.
It is about trusting someone to prepare your people properly.
Their safety.
Their confidence.
Their ability to respond when something goes wrong.
That is why Essential 6 exists.
Essential 6 is a UK workplace training provider delivering practical, engaging and professionally managed training for organisations across the UK. We support businesses and services with first aid training, fire safety training, health and safety training, moving and handling training, food safety training, health and social care training, clinical care training, CQC support and leadership development.
We work with organisations that cannot afford for training to be forgettable, generic or badly delivered.
You need training that people value, remember and use.
Built from lived experience
Essential 6 was founded by Alan Foster after 11 years’ service in the Royal Navy, where he became Lead Trainer for firefighting and damage control operations.
During his service, Alan was seriously injured while teaching firefighting and was later medically discharged. That experience shaped the purpose behind Essential 6.
Alan knows first-hand how quickly an incident can change a life, a career and a future. He was lucky to survive. That is why training is personal to us.
We treat every course as if the safety, confidence and future of someone in the room may depend on it.
For us, training is never just a certificate.
It is confidence.
It is competence.
It is preparation.
It is helping people act when it matters most.
We do not believe in tick-box training
Too much workplace training is forgettable.
People attend, complete the course, receive a certificate and return to work unchanged.
That is not good enough.
Poor training may still produce a certificate, but it does not always produce confidence.
If something happens in your workplace, your team needs more than proof they attended a course. They need to know what to do.
That is why our courses are designed to be practical, engaging and relevant to the real workplace. We use discussion, demonstration, hands-on practice, realistic scenarios and specialist equipment where appropriate to help learners understand, remember and apply what they have learned.
We want people to leave our training more capable than when they arrived.
Trusted by organisations across the UK
Essential 6 supports organisations of all sizes, from small independent providers to large, complex national organisations.
We work with NHS services, local authorities, Great Western Railway, case management companies, large independent care providers, charities, construction and manufacturing businesses, schools, hotel groups, leisure providers and hospitality businesses.
Every sector is different. Every workplace has its own risks, pressures and responsibilities. That is why we do not deliver generic training.
We take time to understand your organisation, your people and the outcomes you need, so the training is relevant to your workplace, your learners and the real situations they may face.
Whether you are responsible for one course, multiple sites or a full training programme, our role is to make the process clear, professional and effective.
A reputation built through results
Essential 6 has trained more than 100,000 learners and achieved over 1,000 five-star Google reviews.
That level of feedback does not happen by accident. It comes from consistently delivering training that is professional, engaging, practical and genuinely valued by learners and organisations.
We are also proud to have been recognised through respected business awards, including the Great British Entrepreneur Awards Randal Foundation category, the Federation of Small Businesses South West Award, and Best Small Business at the Torbay Business Awards.
Awards and reviews are not the reason we do what we do. They are evidence of the standard we hold ourselves to on every course, with every client and every learner.
Supported by people who care
The Essential 6 experience starts long before the course begins.
Our office and support team are central to the way we work. Clients regularly comment on how helpful, friendly and supportive they are throughout the whole process.
From choosing the right course and arranging dates to supporting delegates, managing certificates and answering questions, our team makes training simple to organise and professionally managed from start to finish.
Great training is not just about the day itself. It is about the whole experience: the first enquiry, the advice, the booking process, the communication, the delivery, the certificates, the follow-up and the confidence that everything has been handled properly.
Our mission
Our mission is simple: to deliver the best training possible, practical, engaging, relevant and built for real confidence.
We want every learner to leave our courses more capable than when they arrived.
We want every organisation we support to feel confident that their people have received training that is credible, current and meaningful.
And we want every client to know they have chosen a provider that takes their responsibility seriously.
Because when something goes wrong, the quality of training matters.
